Luchi Recipe

Luchi Recipe offered to Krishna on a silver thali garnished with fresh coriander leaf.

Hare Krishna Luchi is a soft and fluffy bread, inspired by the principles of bhakti yoga. This luchi recipe is a traditional Bengali dish that is both simple and satisfying. In the tradition of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, preparing and offering food to Krishna is an act of love and devotion, known as bhakti. Each dish is prepared with care, mindfulness, and a pure heart, making it not just a meal but a spiritual offering.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Luchi:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water (60 ml), approximately
  • Ghee or oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, pliable dough. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Divide Dough: Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  3. Roll Out Luchis: Roll out each dough ball into a small circle, about 4-5 inches in diameter.
  4. Fry Luchis: Heat ghee or oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully slide a rolled-out luchi into the oil. Fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown on both sides. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve Hot: Serve the luchis hot with your favorite side dish.

Notes

  • Variation: Add a pinch of fennel seeds to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Store any leftover luchis in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat before serving.
