Hare Krishna Tofu Paneer is a delicious and vegan-friendly alternative to traditional paneer. This easy-to-make dish combines tofu with a rich and spiced gravy, creating a satisfying and wholesome meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block firm tofu, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tofu: Press the tofu to remove excess water and cut it into cubes.
  2. Heat Oil: In a large pan, heat the coconut oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  3. Add Spices: Stir in the turmeric powder, ground coriander, cumin powder, and red chili powder (if using). Cook for a few seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add Tomato Puree: Stir in the tomato puree and cook for 5-7 minutes until the oil begins to separate.
  5. Add Tofu and Coconut Milk: Gently fold in the tofu cubes and coconut milk. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the tofu is well coated and the flavors have melded.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh coriander leaves if desired. Serve hot with rice, quinoa, or gluten-free chapatis.

Notes

  • Tofu Preparation: Pressing the tofu before cooking helps it absorb the flavors of the spices and prevents it from becoming too watery.
  • Spice Level: Adjust the amount of red chili powder based on your preference for spiciness.
  • Serving Suggestion: Tofu Paneer pairs well with basmati rice, quinoa, or gluten-free chapatis.
  • Storage Tip: Leftover Tofu Paneer can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
