Spiced Chapati Recipe offered to Krishna with fresh coriander leaf.

Hare Krishna Spiced Chapati is a deliciously seasoned bread, inspired by the principles of bhakti yoga. This chapati recipe incorporates simple, wholesome spices to create a bread that can be enjoyed at any time of day. In the tradition of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, preparing and offering food to Krishna is an act of love and devotion, known as bhakti. Each dish is prepared with care, mindfulness, and a pure heart, making it not just a meal but a spiritual offering.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chapati:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 3/4 cup water (177 ml), approximately
  • Ghee or oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour, salt, cumin seeds, carom seeds, and turmeric powder. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, pliable dough. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Divide Dough: Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and shape them into balls.
  3. Roll Out Chapatis: Roll out each dough ball into a thin, round chapati, about 6-7 inches in diameter.
  4. Cook Chapatis: Heat a tawa or flat griddle over medium heat. Place a rolled-out chapati on the hot tawa. Cook until brown spots appear on both sides, flipping as needed.
  5. Serve Hot: Serve the spiced chapatis hot with your favorite side dish.

Notes

  • Variation: Add a pinch of garam masala to the dough for a more aromatic flavor.
  • Storage: Store any leftover chapatis in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. Reheat before serving.
