Hare Krishna Naan Bread Recipe offered to Krishna with fresh ghee and chopped coriander leaf.

Hare Krishna Naan is a soft and fluffy flatbread, inspired by the principles of bhakti yoga. This delightful naan combines simple, wholesome ingredients to create a versatile addition to your meals. In the tradition of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, cooking and offering food to Krishna is an act of love and devotion, known as bhakti. Each dish is prepared with care, mindfulness, and a pure heart, making it not just a meal but a spiritual offering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the yogurt, olive oil, and activated yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Rest Dough: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Divide Dough: Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
  7. Roll Out Dough: On a floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Cook Naan: Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until puffed and golden brown spots appear.
  9. Serve: Brush with melted butter or ghee, if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust Thickness: Roll the naan thinner for crispier bread or thicker for softer bread.
  • Serving Tip: Serve naan hot off the skillet for the best texture and flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftover naan in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven before serving.
