Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (with live cultures)
  • Optional: sweetener (honey, sugar) and flavorings (vanilla, fruit)

Instructions

  1. Heat Milk: In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches about 180°F (82°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  2. Cool Milk: Remove from heat and let the milk cool to about 110°F (43°C).
  3. Mix Yogurt Starter: In a small bowl, combine the plain yogurt with a few tablespoons of the cooled milk. Mix until smooth.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Pour the yogurt mixture back into the pot with the remaining milk and stir gently but thoroughly.
  5. Incubate: Pour the mixture into a clean container or yogurt maker. Cover it with a lid or cloth and keep it warm (around 100°F/38°C) for 6-12 hours, depending on desired thickness.
  6. Refrigerate: Once set, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before consuming.
  7. Serve & Enjoy: Add sweeteners or flavorings if desired, then enjoy your homemade yogurt!

Notes

  • Adjust Sweetness: You can adjust the amount of sweetener to suit your taste preferences.
  • Flavor Variations: Add vanilla, fruit, or honey for different flavors.
  • Serving Tip: Refrigerate the yogurt for a couple of hours before serving for the best texture.
