Hare Krishna Batata Poha is a delightful and flavorful dish, inspired by the principles of bhakti yoga. This poha combines simple, wholesome ingredients to create a delicious addition to your meals. In the tradition of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, preparing and offering food to Krishna is an act of love and devotion, known as bhakti. Each dish is prepared with care, mindfulness, and a pure heart, making it not just a meal but a spiritual offering.

  • 1 cup flattened rice (poha)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 medium potato, diced
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon juice (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare Poha:

  1. Rinse Poha:
    • Rinse the poha in cold water until it softens. Drain well and set aside.

Cook Batata Poha:

  1. Heat Oil:
    • In a pan, heat oil. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  2. Sauté Vegetables:
    • Add diced potato and green peas. Sauté until the potatoes are cooked and the peas are tender.
  3. Add Spices:
    • Add chopped green chilies, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Add Poha:
    • Add the rinsed poha to the pan and mix gently to combine all the ingredients. Cook for a few minutes until everything is heated through.

Serve:

  1. Garnish and Serve:
    • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Variation: Add finely chopped tomatoes for extra flavor and texture.
  • Storage: Store any leftover poha in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days.
